CII lines up host of events to celebrate Madras Day

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Chennai zone is organising a host of events commemorating Madras Day, an official said on Saturday.

The CII, along with Greater Chennai Corporation, police, and other departments, are holding the events today and on Sunday on the eve of Madras Day observed on August 22 every year.

The idea is to create pride among the people in Chennai. The city is a colourful combination of the old world and new. From its culture, architecture, beaches, industries, Chennai is a true metropolis, said CII Chennai zone chairman J Murugavel.

August 22 is celebrated to commemorate the founding of the city of Madras (now Chennai). It was on this day in 1639 that the purchase of Madrasapatnam was made by the East India Company, thus setting the ball rolling in the making of a renowned city that it is today. Year 2022 marks the 383rd anniversary of Chennai, said CII.

“Chennai Nights, a cultural extravaganza, has been organised as part of the celebrations. The highlight is the presence of more than 20 different food stalls, among others,” he said in a press release.

The CII has organised a platform to showcase various products created by self-help groups, and farmer produce organisations during the two-day event that would be held at the Elliott’s Beach, the release added.

Culture ministry lines up events for July

Qatar Social and Cultural Centre for Blind

The Ministry of Culture will organise various events throughout July in its affiliated centres, including the Music Affairs Centre, the Qatar Social and Cultural Centre for Blind, and the Qatari Forum for Authors.
The Qatari Forum for Authors will present cultural activities, including a book council during the Eid al-Adha holidays, until July 17.
The Music Affairs Centre will present the “Music is the language of peoples from the land of rice” event.
The activities of the Qatar Social and Cultural Centre for Blind will continue throughout July. It is The centre is holding a workshop for the blind entitled “Alexa personal assistant in Arabic and how to use and obtain it.”
Also, the centreis organising a cultural competition for its members, activities targeting its affiliates, and a cultural lecture on human and self-development for blind people.

Katara lines up diverse events throughout Ramadan

Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) presents a diverse range of activities and events during Ramadan, which are directed to different interests and age groups. The activities varied between religious, cultural, literary, sports and social events.

Katara is decorated with lights and crescents in all its halls and entrances and to sense the mercies and blessings of this holy month. It also provides visitors with the opportunity to watch the Ramadan cannon and the Al Mashar event.

Before the start of Ramadan, the Suftaan Katara campaign was launched, which seeks to provide humanitarian aid to poor families and needy groups in the society. On the southern side of Katara, spaces have been allocated for productive families to display their various products.

With regard to activities of a religious nature, Katara presents a series of lectures at Katara Mosque after Tarawih prayers in cooperation with the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Center and the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

Meanwhile, for sports activities and competitions, there are a number of competitions and tournaments, including the Katara Ramadan Chess Championship, popular games, the throwing club and electronic games, Studio 5/6, and the most beautiful Kashka competition in Garangao, Ramadan Short Story Competition, Narrator Event. 

Katara has also dedicated cultural and literary activities in line with the Ramadan atmosphere, such as the Ramadan Nights in Literature and Culture event, which deals with the most prominent writers and writers in novel, story and poetry in a number of Arab countries, and the Arabic coffee event, in addition to the event of Ibn Al Rayb Street, a book and a Qatari personality, which will deal with books issued by Katara Publishing House participated in cultural discussions and various art workshops for children in Buildings 18 and 19 on plastic art and Arabic calligraphy.

The Mahaseel Market on the southern side of Katara will continue its activities daily during the holy month of Ramadan, from 8pm until 12mn. This is to provide visitors with their needs of fresh local products of vegetables, agricultural crops and food products related to livestock such as milk and its derivatives, sheep meat, poultry and eggs, in addition to best natural honey produced by Qatari farms and the best local dates.
