Beacon Education to host 8th Annual Celebrity Chef Events, Emeril Lagasse and Rachel Ray to attend

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Beacon Education announced Aug. 9 that Emeril Lagasse and Rachel Ray are expected to attend the foundation’s 8th Annual Celebrity Chef Events on Feb. 9 and 10, 2023.

Per their announcement, the two will be in attendance for a dinner on Feb. 9 as well as a breakfast and luncheon on Feb. 10. The breakfast and luncheon are currently scheduled to occur at Landfall Country Club.

Beacon Education, formerly GLOW NC, is a nonprofit foundation that currently supports the Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington (GLOW Academy). According to Beacon, the foundation is working to open the Spark Academy, a co-ed and mixed-income education center for young children. As of this time, the Spark Academy is scheduled to open in summer 2023.

According to their announcement, the money raised by the 8th Annual Celebrity Chef Events will go towards supporting both the Spark Academy and the GLOW Academy.

Leland announces spring events

Leland announces spring events

LELAND, N.C. (WECT) – The Town of Leland plans to hold several events this spring.

On April 7, the town will hold an adult night egg hunt at 7 p.m. in Founders Park.

“This popular event will feature food trucks, live music by Gump Fiction, movie trivia, and a flashlight egg hunt with prizes donated by local businesses and restaurants,” a news release from the town states. “All participants must be 21 or older and bring their own flashlight. This event is BYOB, and only beer and wine are allowed.”

Tickets must be purchased in advanced here.

A youth egg hunt will take place April 10 at 10 a.m. at Northwest District Park. Children up to 10 years old can participate and participants will be divided by age.

“Bring a basket and prepare for a visit from Mr. E.B., who will arrive after all the hunts have finished,” the news release states. “This event is free and requires no pre-registration.”

The town’s Movie in the Park series kicks off with Space Jam: a New Legacy starting at 8 p.m. at Founders Park. The other films in the series include:

  • May 14, 8:30 p.m. – Luca
  • June 4, 9 p.m. – Encanto
  • June 18, 9 p.m. – Sing 2

The Live at the Park music series will begin at 6:30 p.m., April 28, in Founders Park with a performance from The Phantom Playboys.

Also scheduled to perform are:

  • May 5, 6:30 p.m. – L Shape Lot
  • May 26, 6:30 p.m. – Port City Shakedown
  • June 2, 6:30 p.m. – The Tonez

Dead Crow Comedy hosting two events to benefit Play It Forward Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Dead Crow Comedy Room will play host to a pair of events this weekend to help raise funds for Play It Forward Wilmington, a non-profit which takes new and used musical instruments and gifts them to children.

On Friday, April 1, Dead Crow will host two comedy shows. At the 7 p.m. show, comedians Mat Millner, Steve Marcinowski and Timmy Sherrill will perform. The 9:30 show will feature comedians Chad Fogland, Jack Nelson and Bridget Callahan.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $20 for VIP for each show.

On Sunday, April 3, the venue will host an all-day music event. Doors open at 1 p.m. with bands starting at 2.

Scheduled to perform are:

  • School of Rock
  • Free Drinks the band
  • Audiomelt
  • The Swellians
  • Hyperloops
  • Cool Jerk
  • Jared Cline
  • Cary Benjamin

For Sunday’s event, admission is free for all kids under 16. All other tickets are $10 in advance and $15 the day of the show.
