Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town tonight through next weekend.

This is an especially long weekend with no school on Monday and Tuesday.

  • ARHS Outdoor Movie Night (7:30 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School football field: ARHS’s Student Council is holding a fundraiser for student events, featuring the outdoor screening of Despicable Me. Organizers welcome the Northborough and Southborough communities to participate. For details, see dedicated post.

  • No School: Due to use of NSBORO schools for voting, there is no public school today in Southborough and Northborough
  • State Primary (6:30 – 8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School gym, 49 Parkerville Road: description. Primary to select which Democrat and Republican candidates will be on our ballot in November’s state election. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Bridge (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Tuesday Tech Time (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: Need help with technology? Library staff and teen volunteers will make every effort to assist you. Bring questions about ebooks and electronic resources. This is a drop in event; no registrations necessary. Sessions are limited to no more than 1 hour.
  • Cook Book Club (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, upstairs: Each month, participants are encouraged to pick a recipe to make from a selected cookbook. Bring the dish to share at a gathering at the Library. New participants encouraged and all ages and partners welcome. . For details, see related post.
  • Wellness Series: Autumn Healthy Eating (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ zoom: The Southborough Library and Jill Vroman Fitness & Wellness are offering free, virtual Wellness workshops to the community. This session: Have a laugh with Jill and Todd Vroman and cook seasonal foods that will help with digestion, improve your gut biome and have fun.   • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Southborough cemetery, 11 Cordaville Road: Free walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Better World Book Club (5:00 – 6:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: This monthly book club run by the Southobrough Library for middle schoolers requires pre-registration. For details, see related post.
  • Southborough Rotary Club (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Southborough. New and prospective members are always welcome.

Thursday, September 8, 2022

  • Advanced Tai Chi (10:15 – 11:45 am) @ Southborough Library: Participants from the Southborough Senior Center’s class will be meeting at the library over the summer. Want to practice your poses? Or make new friends? Fellow experienced Tai Chi participants are welcome to come check it out. Drop-in, no registration.
  • Mah Jongg (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: The weekly program would love new players to join. Feel free to stop by to watch or talk to one of the players to see if you would be interested. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Preschool Farm Explorers (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: For ages 2 years 9 months to 5 years olds accompanied by adults. This is the first of a 4-part weekly session for kids to learn and explore at the farm. Pre-registration (and fee) required. For details, see related post.
  • Neary Family Picnic and Ice Cream Social (5:00 – 7:30 pm) @ Neary School playground.Neary students and their families are invited to a picnic at the Neary Playground – BYO dinner/beverages. (Trombetta’s Ice Cream Truck will be on-site to purchase ice cream starting at 6:15 pm.)
  • Rotary Interact Club (7:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main level: Take action, build international understanding, and make new friends around the world. Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Find out how serious leadership can be seriously fun.

  • Southborough Safe Spaces – Family BBQ (6:00 – 9:00 pm) @ Pilgrim Church, 15 Common St: Event to welcome back families of youth members of Safe Spaces (Providing a safe, welcoming environment for LBGTQ+ youth of all faiths.) For details, see related post.

  • Hike with Goats (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: All ages/family – 60 minute window – pick a time slot. Take a leisurely hike through Chestnut Hill Farm’s beautiful grounds and trails, accompanied by one or more of our friendly goats! Pre-registration (and fee) required. For details, see related post.
  • Join Scouting Day (12:00 – 2:00 pm) @ Pavilion behind Finn School, 60 Richards Rd: All children entering K-5th Grade are welcome to come out to try Pinewood Derby race cars and learn about Cub Scouts. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Art on the Trails Poetry Walk (3:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Beals Preserve: Closing Poetry Reading and Reception. The closing ceremony for the 2022 Art on the Trails exhibit will feature Poets reading their work along the trail in response to art installations. For details, see dedicated post.
  • NSPAC Playground Meetup for families (4:00 – 6:00 pm) @ Assabet Park20 Gale St, Northborough: A free social event sponsored by NSPAC: Northborough / Southborough Special Education Parent Advisory Council. Meet and chat with fellow parents of students with disabilities while your child enjoys meeting friends and some end of summer fun. NSPAC will provide snacks and drinks.
