The first of the four events is a “Big Summer Concert” to be held in conjunction with Canada day festivities on July 2. Quinte Ribfest, taking place Aug. 5 to 8, has also gotten the green light. The Quinte Celtic Festival, formerly known as the Trenton Scottish Irish Festival, will run on August 20. Finally the much anticipated Hops on the Water Craft Beer Festival will also return Oct. 1.

With the granting of the Special Occasion permits, Quinte West council has put their seal of approval on the events. Jaclyn Grimmon, director of Community Services and Strategic Partnerships, noted to council that approval requests for events are rolling in making the city hopeful for an eventful summer and fall.

“Certainly exciting to see events coming back online. The requests are coming in fast and furious,” said Grimmon to council. “Lots of exciting events coming forward and to look forward to through the summer season and into the fall.”

Addressing the four events in question, Coun. Terry Cassidy complimented the efficiency and leadership of the events saying, “they may be really well run this year… It looks like they’re very well set up and that we’re in fact now getting ahead of the game by getting all the permissions we need.”

Coun. Cassidy also expressed his hope that the ongoing pandemic won’t derail the plans.

“Hopefully it will be as COVID free as possible so people can really enjoy what’s out there this summer and going into the fall… this is a really nice, consolidated package that would really bring some life to the downtown core.”
