New AirPods Pro coming at iPhone 14 Apple Event | AppleInsider

Apple will be using its September 7 special event to launch the second generation of AirPods Pro alongside the iPhone 14, a report claims, just days ahead of the event itself.

Apple’s special events in September primarily focus on the annual iPhone update, but other products do get launched at around the same time. While AirPods are considered to be a good candidate for a launch during the same event, a report insists that Apple will be bringing out new AirPods Pro this time around.

During the event, AirPods Pro 2 will be unveiled, according to Mark Gurman’s “Power On” newsletter for Bloomberg on Sunday. Though rumors were fairly strong about a launch sometime in the fall, Gurman insists it will happen during Wednesday’s presentation.

Over the months, rumors for the personal audio accessories have put forward claims of a stemless design, some debate over whether there will be some form of built-in fitness tracking, and case changes. There have been suggestions the charging case could include a form of hearing aid functionality, complete with a microphone and a speaker that could help with Find My recovery.

However, it is also entirely plausible that the new AirPods Pro could more closely resemble the first generation in form and function, with internal hardware improvements including changes to the H1 chip and Bluetooth connectivity a possibility.

What is certainly rumored to stay the same is connectivity for charging, with the case thought to continue with Lightning for the moment, but changing to USB-C in 2023.

Remote skeptic Apple welcomes back in-person events

Welcome to our weekend Apple Breakfast column, which includes all of the Apple news you missed this week in a handy bite-sized roundup. We call it Apple Breakfast because we think it goes great with a morning cup of coffee or tea, but it’s cool if you want to give it a read during lunch or dinner hours too.

The importance of putting people in a room

Some companies have embraced remote working over the past two years, and recognize that it saves money and makes life easier for staff. But others, such as Apple, have been more skeptical.

Apple has the tech and expertise to be one of the world’s great remote companies, but it refuses to give up on face-to-face meetings without a fight. Internally this is because of a phenomenon it refers to as serendipity, the idea that members of separate teams will bump into each other in the corridor and share ideas. But externally there’s a different sort of magic that the company doesn’t want to lose.

Apple knows that its special events are an intense experience, and that no amount of online press releases can compare to putting products in the hands of excited journalists. Which is why, despite the many advantages of virtual events, the company will be hugely relieved that next month’s Sept 7 event is once again open to in-person attendees.

It’s not quite the first such event, since WWDC in June had a small number of attendees on one of the days. And leaked information suggests that even this event will still have hybrid real/virtual elements, and feature the pre-recorded video that has been so popular at virtual gatherings. It will also be streamed live to anyone who’s interested, of course: it should embody many of the best characteristics of both approaches.

But there’s no mistaking Apple’s intentions. Fundamentally, at every opportunity, this is a company that wants to put people in a room. Even if it doesn’t seem to make sense from a strictly rational, is-this-the-most-efficient-approach point of view.

Virtual events are quicker and slicker than in-person ones. Remote working has numerous advantages over the office, and Apple has infuriated staff by demanding that they show up three days a week. All of this seems to make little sense–but then, it made little sense to throw resources into bricks and mortar when other companies were withdrawing to online, but the Apple Stores were a roaring success.

Perhaps it isn’t rational. But Apple has a corporate culture of inspiration, of persuading customers and employees to believe in things that aren’t entirely rational. And it’s a lot easier to do that sort of conjuring trick when the person you’re inspiring is in the same room.

Apple is toying with the idea of putting more ads on your iPhone, and the Macalope is worried.

Apple September Event: iPhone 14, Apple Watch Series 8, and more to expect

In less than two months, Apple will likely hold its traditional September event. If the company follows the trend, this will be the most important keynote of the year. Although there are several products Apple could be readying, there are two that people are expecting the most, the iPhone 14 series and the Apple Watch Series 8. Here’s what Apple can announce at its September event.

iPhone 14 at the Apple September Event

The iPhone 14 series will be the star of the Apple September Event. With four new models set to be introduced, expect a lot of hype from a new iPhone 14 Plus/Max. Although the regular models won’t have much to differentiate from the current iPhone 13 generation, a bigger model will be a nice addition.

At the Apple September Event, expect great changes for the iPhone 14 Pro, as previously reported by 9to5Mac. A new design, a better processor, and huge improvements on the camera’s side. The iPhone 14 series will likely be one of the biggest Apple launches in years.

Three new Apple Watches are coming

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has been reporting that Apple will introduce three new Apple Watch models in 2022, which he called the most important update for the Watch in years.

These Watches could be unveiled at the Apple September Event. The Apple Watch Series 8 will get at least a new body temperature sensor and a better battery life. The Apple Watch SE will likely be updated, while Apple is also readying a rugged, “Pro” version of the current Watch with a different design and premium finish.

AirPods Pro 2 at the Apple September Event

Apart from the iPhone 14 series and new Apple Watch models, Apple could introduce at its September Event the new AirPods Pro 2.

With a similar design to the current generation, 9to5Mac sources confirm that the next AirPods Pro model – codenamed B698 – will feature the next version of the H1 chip, Apple’s own audio processor. In addition, references for LC3 codec support on the AirPods Max beta firmware tease that AirPods Pro 2 could be the first to add Bluetooth 5.2 support.

This codec will bring more stability and efficiency to the wireless earbuds. Not only that, but this new standard will help AirPods Pro 2 improve the sound quality for voice calls and songs with higher-bitrate support. Although low-energy Bluetooth and LC3 codec don’t promise “Lossless Bluetooth,” they will surely improve sound quality by a lot.

Apple Mixed Reality Headset

Rumors about the Apple Mixed Reality Headset have been ramping up for this past year. During Apple’s September Event, the company could revive Steve Jobs’ “One More Thing” phrase to tease the company’s upcoming Mixed Reality headset.

Rumors currently expect it to be unveiled as soon as late this year and start being sold in 2023. The Apple September Event could be the perfect timing for Apple to disclose to the public that it’s entering a new market.

For example, early this year the company teased it’s working on a new Mac Pro without further details.

New Macs and iPads could be coming a bit later

Apple is also expected to introduce several new Macs and at least two iPads in 2022. While the company unveiled a new MacBook Pro in October, Apple could be readying another keynote for a month later to bring new Macs and iPads.

In today’s newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said Apple has new Mac minis and high-end MacBook Pros for later this year. 9to5Mac sources already confirmed that Apple is working on the tenth-generation base-model iPad and a new iPad Pro.

When will Apple hold its September Event?

Apple usually holds its events on a Tuesday. If the company follows the past years trend, the keynote could take place on September 13, as it’s the second Tuesday of the month.

Although nothing is confirmed – and there are no rumors regarding the possible date – it’s common sense that this could be the perfect time for the company to introduce the iPhone 14, Apple Watch Series 8, and more.

Since WWDC 2022 had a hybrid experience, maybe Apple is finally readying the first in-person event of the year for the iPhone 14 release.

Apple Event 2022: New Low-End iPhone Expected to Have 5G Service

is bringing 5G cellular connectivity to cheaper iPhones, a move some on Wall Street say will continue to fuel record sales this year as concerns linger over demand for the more-expensive versions.

The Cupertino, Calif., tech giant is slated to reveal the third-generation iPhone SE on Tuesday during a virtual event on the company’s website, starting at 1 p.m. ET. Apple is also expected to unveil an updated iPad Air with a faster processor as well as 5G, and new computers with faster chips, according to a person familiar with the plans.

The iPhone SE was an early pandemic darling for Apple. Sales of the device approached 25 million, or 12% of the company’s estimated global smartphone shipments, in 2020, according to researcher IDC. Apple doesn’t break out results by iPhone model.

The low-end model, which starts at $399 and comes with the smallest display size of 4.7 inches, fared less well in the past year with the arrival of Apple’s flagship products. Those include the iPhone 12 lineup, which introduced ultrafast 5G to the company’s smartphone offerings for the first time and was given a boost with price breaks from carriers eager to get customers onto the new cellular networks.

Sales of the high-end devices helped propel iPhone sales to a record $192 billion in fiscal 2021 and contributed to the year’s record profit of almost $100 billion. At the same time, shipments of the iPhone SE that lacked 5G fell an estimated 40% in 2021 compared with 2020, according to IDC.

“Obviously, some of the phones that Apple has launched have been really expensive, for the mostly mid- to high-end consumer, so now you get an affordable phone with 5G,”

an analyst for

J.P. Morgan,

said in an interview.

Mr. Chatterjee raised his earnings estimates for the fiscal year because of expectations for the iPhone lineup, including his faith in the potential of the SE model to appeal to price-conscious buyers looking for 5G. He is forecasting that the SE version could tally 30 million units sold in the first year and help boost overall iPhone shipments to a record of 250 million.

“That’s what will give investors confidence that Apple can continue to grow iPhone revenues,” he said.

The iPhone 12—and the iterative iPhone 13 versions introduced last fall—helped fuel renewed interest among Chinese consumers. The iPhone’s strength was aided by the collapse of Huawei Technologies Co.’s smartphone business amid sanctions by the U.S. government. The sanctions stripped Huawei of the ability to use

Android operating system. In the final three months of last year, the iPhone retook the top spot as the bestselling smartphone in China. Mr. Chatterjee said the SE model could benefit from the China dynamics and the country’s interest in 5G phones.

Other analysts seem to be warming to Apple’s potential this year as well. As recently as late last year, the average estimate of analysts surveyed by FactSet predicted flat iPhone sales for the current fiscal year, which ends in September, amid worries that the appeal of the iPhone might have peaked during the year after the big upgrade with 5G technology.

In recent weeks, optimism about the company’s outlook has been growing, aided by stronger-than-expected results for the final three months of last year. Analysts now expect iPhone revenue to rise 5% this fiscal year—after soaring 39% in fiscal 2021.

When the first SE model made its debut in 2016, some analysts said the device could help Apple in markets outside of the U.S. where the iPhone—which can cost more than $1,500—is priced out of reach. Instead, the top three markets for the cheaper device last year were the U.S., Japan and Western Europe, according to IDC.

In China, the SE made up less than 10% of shipments, according to Chiew Le Xuan, an analyst at research firm Canalys. He said the phone struggled against budget-oriented Android rivals and expressed skepticism that the new version would do well in China.

“The iPhone SE third generation may seem like a hit in China due to Apple’s increasing market share and 5G penetration,” he said in an email. “However, according to Canalys data, Chinese consumers are inclined towards phones with a larger display.”

In the U.S., the SE has been a gateway to the Apple brand for owners of less-expensive Android phones. Last year, 26% of SE buyers previously had an Android phone, according to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners’ surveys of consumers. “IPhone SE has become a sort of entry-level iPhone, mostly because of its price point,” said

Apple again might benefit from carriers eager to push its latest phones on customers, according to

Cliff Maldonado,

principal analyst for BayStreet Research, which tracks marketing efforts by the wireless-service providers.

The carriers are eager to move customers from 4G to the new faster networks because it is cheaper for them to deliver the same amount of data. Mr. Maldonado forecasts that carriers will reach about 95% of 5G subscribers in mid-2024. 5G has been aimed at improving connections for games and videos.

“The carriers will be happy to push the SE3 over the previous SE2 at roughly the same $400 price point because the SE3 will allow the carrier to support the phone less expensively on 5G than 4G LTE,” he said.

Apple expected to launch new low-cost 5G iPhone at event on Tuesday

Apple Inc AAPL-Q will likely announce a new low-cost version of its iPhone SE with 5G capabilities at its annual spring product launch event on Tuesday, analysts say.

The iPhone maker is also expected to launch a new version of the iPad Air and a high-end Mac Mini at the event.

Apple’s iPhone SE is currently priced at $399. CFRA Research analyst Angelo Zino said Apple could attract more price-sensitive consumers if the price remains the same for the new version.

“It could potentially provide upside to our unit iPhone estimate for 2022 if they keep that price point unchanged,” Zino said. “The iPhone SE really caters well to a lot of first-time buyers on the iPhone ecosystem that may be younger individuals, where their parents are going out there buying that device.”

The new phone would be the first update to the iPhone SE model in two years and is rumoured to come with an improved camera and a faster processor.

The United States, Japan and Western Europe have been the top markets for iPhone SE sales in recent years, said analyst Ryan Reith of IDC. Reith said these regions will likely remain the top markets after the anticipated launch of the third-generation iPhone SE.

“We probably won’t see big geography shifts,” Reith said, adding that he expects the new iPhone SE to account for 10 per cent of iPhone shipments globally after the launch.

IPhones with 5G capabilities have been a big part of Apple’s focus for its flagship product, with its latest-model iPhone 13 showing off custom 5G antennas and radio components for faster speeds as customers look for powerful devices with better connectivity.

But some analysts still point to the limitations of 5G technology globally.

“Currently in most countries in the world, that (5G) technology simply isn’t good enough to create a unique and differentiated experience … the fact that the iPhone SE comes with 5G is more a way to enable users to leverage 5G when that technology evolves over the next year or two,” Canalys research analyst Runar Bjørhovde said.

Zino said he does not anticipate services or accessories launches at the Tuesday event, though an unexpected announcement in the services sector is still possible.

Apple usually hosts three events every year to launch new products, starting in spring and announcing the launch of its latest iPhone range just before the holiday shopping season.

In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Apple said on March 1 it has paused all product sales in Russia. The company also said it has stopped all exports into its sales channels in the country and limited Apple Pay and other services in Russia.

The Russian state media, RT News and Sputnik News, are no longer available for download from the Apple Store outside Russia.

Which New Mac Will Apple Release at Its March Event?

Apple is widely expected to unveil a new Mac next month, but with the high-end Mac mini, the 27-inch iMac, and the Mac Pro all still featuring Intel chips and Apple’s M1 machines from 2020 now reaching almost 15 months in age, it is not immediately clear which new model the company is planning to announce next.

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, who often reveals accurate insights into Apple’s plans, recently reported that Apple is currently planning to host a special event on Tuesday, March 8. The event is expected to at least include the announcement of the third-generation iPhone SE and the fifth-generation iPad Air.

A recent report from Gurman claimed that Apple’s spring event will include the announcement at least one new Mac powered by Apple silicon chips. Overall, Apple is expected to launch five new Macs this year:

Laptops

Redesigned MacBook Air with M2 chip and multiple color options
Refreshed entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro with ‌M2‌ chip

Desktops

Redesigned high-end 27-inch ‌iMac‌ with M1 Pro and M1 Max
Redesigned high-end ‌Mac mini‌ with ‌M1 Pro‌ and ‌M1 Max‌
Redesigned ‌Mac Pro‌ with Apple silicon

Gurman suggested that the Mac unveiled at the spring Apple event may be either the new mini-LED iMac or the Mac mini, with the other three models apparently being unlikely to emerge before the fall.

There have been no indications that the redesigned ‌MacBook Air‌ or ‌Mac Pro‌ will be arriving next month, and it currently looks like the announcement of the ‌Mac mini‌ is the most likely eventuality. Not only was the ‌Mac mini‌ rumored to launch at Apple’s October event last year alongside the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro Models, but the ‌Mac mini‌ release date rumor comes by cross-referencing credible recent reports from display analyst Ross Young and Gurman.

In December 2021, Young said that a new ‌iMac‌ Pro model with a mini-LED display was going to launch in the spring, and Gurman also floated the possibility of this machine being announced at a spring event, likely in March or April. Now, Young says that he no longer expects the new iMac Pro to launch in the spring, with a “summer” launch seeming more likely for the high-end all-in-one device. Panel shipments for the ‌iMac‌ Pro are expected to begin in June, and a release could follow in August or September.

Apple has been rumored to be working on a Mac mini to replace the Intel-based models that are still in the product lineup for some time. Apple updated the entry-level ‌Mac mini‌ with the ‌M1‌ chip in November 2020, but the high-end offering is still the Space Gray model with an Intel processor from 2018. It is this high-end model that is expected to be replaced this year with an Apple silicon model that features the first redesign since 2010.

The new device is expected to feature the ‌M1 Pro‌ and ‌M1 Max‌ chips from the MacBook Pro, up to 64GB of memory, four Thunderbolt ports, a design with a “plexiglass-like” top, and more. For more information about what to expect from the high-end ‌Mac mini‌, see our detailed guide.

Taking all of the available evidence into account, this means that the high-end ‌Mac mini‌ is likely the new Mac that will announce at Apple’s spring event, but it is possible that the company could unveil more than one Apple silicon Mac at the event.

In December, Gurman was first to report that Apple was planning to launch an updated entry-level MacBook Pro with the ‌M2‌ chip and no Touch Bar this year. While this machine was generally been assumed to be arriving later in the year, a recent report from DigiTimes claimed that this model is set to arrive as soon as March. Lining up with this, the reputable leaker behind the correct rumors about the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models last year also recently claimed that the new 13-inch MacBook Pro will debut in March.

A March unveiling for the updated entry-level MacBook Pro seems questionable since this would be the debut of the ‌M2‌ chip, which may make more sense to appear in a redesigned Mac such as the ‌MacBook Air‌ first, but it remains a possibility given recent rumors. It would perhaps be more understandable if the ‌M2‌ also appeared in a new ‌Mac mini‌ model at the event.

Rumors indicate that the high-end ‌Mac mini‌ will mirror the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro’s chip options, but this does not disqualify Apple from also upgrading the entry-level ‌Mac mini‌ from the ‌M1‌ chip to the ‌M2‌, even though there have been no reports to suggest this.

Regardless, there are other significant questions around how the new entry-level MacBook Pro will take the middle ground between the the current high-end MacBook Pro and the ‌‌M2‌‌ ‌‌MacBook Air‌‌ that is expected to arrive later this year.

In terms of the March event’s Mac unveilings, it is important to note that Apple filed three new Mac models in the Eurasian Economic Database earlier this month with the model numbers A2615, A2686, and A2681, which suggests that the launch of new machines is imminent. A2681 is said to be a laptop, while the other two Macs are desktop machines. It seems plausible that this relates to two ‌Mac mini‌ models and one 13-inch MacBook Pro model.

Reports in the immediate run-up to Apple events often reveal critical details about new products, as was the case with the last-minute revelation of the MacBook Pro’s notch last year, so more information about new Macs could still come to light in the coming weeks before the spring event.
