Apply to be The 19th’s Multimedia Events Producer
Minimum salary: $70,000 / year
Location: Anywhere in the US (Remote)
Reports to: Senior director of events
The 19th is hiring a multimedia events producer to support our nonprofit news organization’s dynamic slate of virtual and in-person events and digital storytelling. The ideal candidate is passionate about the mission of The 19th and believes in the impact live journalism can have in informing and engaging audiences in important policy conversations. Newsroom experience or a background in producing story-driven projects would be an asset.
As our multimedia events producer you will be responsible for producing high-quality digital programming for live streamed, pre-recorded and in-person events, from short newsmaker conversations on engagement platforms to our annual multi-day summit. You will work with journalists, colleagues and a wide variety of speakers to record conversations and interviews for The 19th’s events. You have great approaches to branding and will work closely with our Creative Director to seamlessly integrate The 19th’s mission and brand into our events and digital content. You will be thoughtful about communicating with and serving audiences, with a priority on accessibility.
You will work closely with the editorial, creative, product and audience teams to execute well produced events and enhance our journalism in several ways. You will be comfortable providing quick turnaround on edited videos, social clips and highlight reels. You may work with the 19th’s audience team to edit archival event videos to pair with news of the day. You may collaborate with reporters, editors and our audience team to edit short-form videos that make gender, politics and policy news more accessible to our audiences across engagement platforms. You will be our resident audio and video expert who will help identify recording and production opportunities for reporters and various projects, and can help train colleagues to use equipment when necessary.
The ideal candidate is a problem-solver, resourceful and detail oriented. You are an excellent collaborator who can efficiently manage multiple projects at once.
As we seek to expand to in-person events, you will develop a tech rider and coordinate our AV needs with a variety of venues and venue staff. We’re also looking for someone who is energized by the demands of travel and event production, is quick on their feet and calm in a crisis — even the best laid events plans can always go awry!
Responsibilities include:
- Produce high-quality digital programming for live streamed, pre-recorded events and in-person events
- Manage company audio and/or video production equipment, identify opportunities and needs, train colleagues and troubleshoot when needed
- Support the whole event team with well organized systems for recording, editing and sharing assets. Comfortable working with Excel, Airtable or comparable tools.
- Keeping track of a lot of moving parts and priorities for each event
- Travel up to 12 times per year when in-person events are in full swing, in addition to staff-wide events requiring travel
- Collaborate with editors and audience team members to create short-form video or audio; pull and cut footage/files; produce or edit digital content — which will live on multiple platforms, such as Instagram reels or YouTube clips — on deadline.
Non-essential duties (as capacity permits):
- Participate in culture building, inclusive decision making, and bringing ideas to different parts of our work in order to help us improve as an organization. For example, helping to onboard new team members and participating in our hiring process
- Participate in team building, organizational and individual relationship building, and professional development throughout the year
- Other duties as assigned
Relevant skills include:
- 3+ years experience in multimedia production, virtual broadcasting and/or live streaming, ideally with a media or news organization
- Experience editing/producing audio and video, including Adobe Creative Suite and/or other multimedia software
- Experience with running technical audio/video production onsite for events
- Self-starting, proactive attitude
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with strong attention to detail
- Creativity: ability to think about events with a storytelling or journalistic eye
- Collaborative: ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
- Experience working with a social or audience engagement team is a plus
- Flexible and able to pivot as needed
- Can-do attitude; excels at problem solving
- Ability to manage physical demands of event production, including lifting up to 25 pounds, walking up and down stairs, and navigating event spaces of different structures which may at times involve sustained periods of standing or sitting
- You share our values, and work in accordance with those values
We know there are great candidates who might not check all these boxes or who possess important skills we haven’t thought of. If that’s you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself. We also encourage members of traditionally underrepresented communities to apply, including people of color, LGBTQ people and people with disabilities.
