CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Labor Day weekend events are in-the-works for the Queen City as many businesses and communities organize a plethora of things to do for the holiday weekend.

“Name Your Price” Adoption Event with Cincinnati Animal CARE

Cincinnati Animal CARE has been at over capacity since April and are looking to find these dogs homes.

The “Name Your Price” adoption event will be held Saturday through Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their pet adoption center in Pleasant Ridge.

The shelter in Northside will be open Sunday from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. for adoptions as well.

Hamilton’s Octoberfest 2022

The city of Hamilton is hosting their annual Octoberfest Sept. 2 to Sept. 4 this year at 2361 Hamilton Cleves Rd. The event has been around since 1968 where people can enjoy homemade German foods, listen to live music and play games while drinking Warstiner beer.

  • Sept. 2: 5-11 p.m.
  • Sept. 3: 1-11 p.m.
  • Sept. 4: 1-8 p.m.

Western & Southern/WEBN Fireworks & Riverfest

Since 1977, Cincinnati has held an annual end-of-summer event with a WEBN firework show, one of the biggest firework shows in the Midwest.

During the day, enjoy an all-day celebration with music, food and various entertainment starting at noon.

Watch the firework show from both sides of the Ohio River at Sawyer Point & Yeatman’s Cove, Mt. Echo Park and Newport on the Levee starting at 9 p.m.

Cincinnati Metro Bussing

Cincinnati Metro is offering free rides Sept. 3 and Sept 4. for all metro busses and access routes.

West Chester Township Symphony Orchestra Concert

West Chester Township is celebrating the end of summer with their annual Labor Day concert at Keehner Park Amphitheater on Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m.

Tri-State Antique Market

Celebrate Labor Day at the Tri-State Antique Market, Indiana’s largest vintage market on Sept. 4 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In the past, over 200 vendors have attended, selling their antique and vintage items.

The event will be held at the Lawrenceburg, Indiana Fairgrounds.

Adult admission is $4, and pets and children are free to attend.

Lunken Airport Days

Lunken Airport is giving warbird and helicopter rides on Sept. 3-4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition, they will also be hosting a color guard ceremony each day at noon with a special patriotic presentation by UC’s ROTC on Sept. 3.

Admission and parking are free for this event.

Flying Pig schedule of events, road closures

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Flying Pig week is in full swing. Road closures begin Thursday, with the events starting Friday morning.

The 24th Flying Pig Marathon is back this weekend, April 29-May 1.

FRIDAY, APRIL 29TH

  • P&G Health and Fitness Expo at the Duke Energy Convention Center is 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • The Fifty West Mile goes off at 7 p.m. along Mehring Way. The Post Race Party goes until 10 p.m. at Smale Park.

SATURDAY, APRIL 30TH

  • The Toyota 10K at 7 a.m. The Family Fun Festival starts at 7:30 a.m. at Smale Park, then the Tri-State Running Company 5K goes off at 9 a.m.

SUNDAY, MAY 1

  • The Flying Pig Marathon powered by P&G at 6:30 a.m. along Elm Street by Paul Brown Stadium. That includes the Paycor Half Marathon and the CityDash 4-person relay. Celebrate your accomplishment at the Michelob Ultra Victory Party at Smale Park, running from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

ROAD CLOSURES

Roads around downtown Cincinnati will close the weekend of the Flying Pig. Organizers are encouraging those participating or attending to download Waze to implement road closures and provide more accurate directions.

The app is free to download and is available in Google Play or the App Store.

CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati track and field team wrapped up its one home meet of the season with 13 first-place finishes along with multiple podium placements.  25 Bearcats’ senior were honored at the event. 
 
The Bearcats had great performances in all events in front of a large crowd at Gettler Stadium to cheer on UC. 
 
The women’s teams had the highest team score, finishing with 210 points. The men’s team finished in a close second with 153.50 points behind Miami (OH), who scored 164.
 
PERFORMANCES OF NOTE
Women’s 4×100-meter relay:
UC women’s 4×100-meter relay team consisting of Faith Banks, Calista Manns, Alicia Thorpe and Juliet McGregor finished first with a time of 45.79.
 
Women’s 400-meter Dash:
UC flew by the competition in the 400-meter dash with runners finishing in the top two spots. Banks finished first with a time of 53.33 and Thorpe finished second with a time of 55.74. 
 
Men’s Long Jump:
Austin Edwards, the back-to-back AAC champion in the long jump continued his dominance in the event with a win at home, jumping 7.48 meters to measure significantly further than the nearest competitor. 
 
Women’s Long Jump:
UC was able to secure the top two spots in the women’s long jump. Nadia Collins jumped 5.92 meters to secure first place while Anaya Dees jumped 5.69 meters to secure second place. 
 
Women’s Triple Jump:
Kennedy Marable finished in first place in the women’s triple jump. She jumped 12.68 meters to beat the rest of the field by a large margin.
 
Men’s 100-meter Dash:
Chris Borzor crossed the finish line in first for the second time this season in the 100-meter dash. His time of 10.52 made him a clear winner at home. 
 
Women’s 100-meter hurdles:
The first and second spots in the 100m hurdles were taken by the Bearcats. Victoria Abunaw placed first with a time of 13.87. Calista Manns placed second with a time of 14.17.  
 
Women’s 800-meter Run:
Ellie Leather finished her career at home with a win in the 800-meter dash, running a time of 2:05.76. She was followed closely by fellow senior Carmen Licht, placing third in 2:10.69.
 
Women’s High Jump:
Annika Kinley and Alyssa Matheny led the high jump with both jumpers clearing 1.71-meters. Kinley finished first and Matheny finished second based on misses in previous heights.
 
Men’s High Jump:
Roderick Flint jumped a huge personal best to win the men’s high jump at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, improving to a jump of 2.05 meters to win the meet. 
 
Men’s 200-meter Dash:
Freshman Steven McElroy won the 200-meter dash at his first-ever home meet for the Bearcats with his time of 21.22.
 
Women’s 4×400-meter Relay:
The team of Thorpe, Banks, Licht and Leather opened up a huge lead in the 4×400-meter relay early in the race. They held the lead and finished the final event for the UC women’s team in first with a time of 3:46.40.
 
Men’s 10,000-meter Run:
Julius Hild closed out the night with a win in the 10,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 30:28.16.
 
Women’s 1500-meter Run:
The Bearcats had two runners finish top three in the 1500m run. Maddie Walker finished second with a time of 4:32.91. Rylee Penn finished right behind Walker with a time of 4:33.30.
 
Men’s Shot Put:
Two Bearcats made it on the podium in the event, with Korbin Spencer taking second place with a throw of 16.03 meters followed by Sam Meece in third with a throw of 15.98 meters. 
 
NEXT UP
The team will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to compete in the Tennessee Relays, hosted by University of Tennessee. The meet will take place from Thursday, April 7 to Saturday, April 9.
