Macau confirms 31 positive cases of COVID-19 as events, offices shut down

Executive Action
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Macau’s Novel Coronavirus Infection Response Coordination Center confirmed late Sunday that 31 people had tested positive to COVID-19, representing the SAR’s first major outbreak since the start of the pandemic almost two-and-a-half years ago.

Among the confirmed cases are 21 females and 10 males ranging in age from eight months to 89 years. Eight of the 31 are symptomatic confirmed cases with 23 asymptomatic at this stage. In their epidemiological investigations, authorities have followed up a total of 602 people, including what they describe as “146 close contacts, 375 non-core close contacts (people with common trails), 36 secondary close contacts, 10 general contacts and four accompanying persons.”

The detection of the 31 cases comes after the Health Bureau initially announced 12 positive cases of COVID-19 in the Macau community, with Kiang Wu Hospital reporting at 6pm on Saturday evening (18 June) the detection of a positive test result in a “10 mixed into one” nucleic acid test. One of the patients was later confirmed to be positive.

The government immediately checked the place of residence and work of the confirmed patient, and found that “at least 10” people were confirmed positive in the building where the patient lives.

This led to the declaration of an “immediate state of prevention” with all government events to be suspended or cancelled and all sports facilities to be shut down. The government also announced the closure of most of its offices today and tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday).

At a press conference on Sunday morning outlining some restrictions, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ao Ieong U, said, “In addition to supermarkets and so on, I hope that some venues will close down, and casinos can also take the same measures, but for the time being, there will not be any instructions, and I hope that enterprises will voluntarily comply and reduce the movement of people in the community.

“I hope people will stay at home, and I hope restaurants will suspend the supply of dining-in food.”

All departures from Macau are now required to present a negative NAT report from a test conducted within the past 24 hours.

The Macau government also announced that all Macau residents will be required to undergo a NAT test between 12 noon on Sunday 19 June and 12 noon on Tuesday 21 June.

The number of confirmed cases was updated to 21 on Sunday afternoon and then 31 on Sunday evening, with more likely to follow.

The first UCI-sanctioned world championship for the rainbow stripes in gravel will be in Italy in October.

The UCI confirmed Thursday the Veneto region in the northeast Italy will host the first UCI gravel worlds October 8-9.

Italy will also host the UCI’s gravel worlds in 2023. The host cities will be announced later, officials said.

Four new events on Women’s WorldTour

The UCI also confirmed four new events on the Women’s WorldTour.

Four new events will join in 2023: The Women’s Santos Tour Down Under, which had UCI ProSeries status in 2020 then was cancelled in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UAE Tour, a new event which joins the existing men’s competition, the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, which moves from UCI ProSeries status to UCI Women’s WorldTour status, and the Tour de Suisse, also moving from UCI ProSeries status to UCI Women’s WorldTour status.

Gree-Tour of Guangxi canceled

Races at the Gree-Tour of Guangxi in October are canceled for 2022.

The race was scheduled for October 13-18, and it marks the third year in a row the event is canceled due to the world pandemic. A women’s race is also canceled.

That means the final UCI’s final men’s WorldTour event will be Il Lombardia. The 2022 UCI Women’s WorldTour will end on 15 October, the last day of the Tour of Chongming Island, China, which is still on the schedule.

The UCI Management Committee also confirmed that the date of the end of the 2022 road season remains 18 October. This is the date of the last day of the Tour de Langkawi (UCI ProSeries), which will take place in Malaysia from October 11-18.

With the men’s WorldTour licenses up for grabs, the Langkawi tour could see a stellar field of teams desperate to chase points.

RideLondon Classique put on notice

The UCI put organizers of the RideLondon Classique (Great Britain) on notice after not providing required live TV coverage of each stage, but only of the last stage.

This constitutes a breach of the UCI Regulations and of the specifications that every organizer of the UCI Women’s WorldTour is required to respect, the UCI said Thursday.

The event’s place on the 2023 calendar is conditional to the presentation of firm commitments concerning the live TV broadcasting of all the stages.

In the meantime, the Management Committee has taken the decision to register the RideLondon Classique in the UCI ProSeries class for the 2023 season.

For the UCI, daily live TV coverage of the UCI Women’s WorldTour events “is fundamental to ensure its continued international development,” a statement read. A final decision on the status of this race will be taken at the UCI Management Committee meeting in September.

Marvel Updates Matt Murdock’s On-Screen Report, Confirms ‘Daredevil’ Events Are MCU Canon

Marvel Updates Matt Murdock’s On-Screen Report, Confirms ‘Daredevil’ Events Are MCU Canon

In a move that many fans of the Man Without Fear have been waiting for, Marvel has updated the official on-screen report for Matt Murdock (Daredevil) located here.

After Charlie Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home in a brief cameo, fans began to question whether this was the same Matt we’d seen in the former Netflix series, or if this was a “variant” of the character. The updates to the report have finally given fans a definitive answer as to whether or not the events of Daredevil are canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and thankfully that answer is yes, and that we are seeing the same Matt Murdock we’ve always seen (just not the Ben Affleck version, thankfully).

Following a description of the final events of season 3 of Daredevil, where Matt attends the funeral for Father Lantom, makes amends with Sister Maggie, and reconciles with Foggy and Karen, the report now continues on:

“Sometime later, Matt was hired as an attorney to defend Peter Parker, as Peter had been publicly outed as Spider-Man and accused of Mysterio’s murder. Though Peter was legally cleared of any wrongdoing, Matt warned him he’d still have to face the court of public opinion and advised Harold “Happy” Hogan to hire a good lawyer. As if on cue, a protestor threw a brick through the window of the Parkers’ apartment in support of Mysterio. Fortunately, due to his heightened senses, Matt was able to catch the brick before it hurt anyone inside. When Peter asked him how he was able to do that, Matt claimed it was because he was a really good lawyer and left it at that.”

While these updates clearly confirm that we are seeing the same Daredevil we always have and that the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home do definitively take place after Daredevil season 3 chronologically, it does raise the question of whether or not Daredevil’s Defenders teammates are also considered canon to the MCU. Hopefully Marvel can and will provide fans an answer to that burning question soon.

These updates are likely not to be the last to come to Matt Murdock’s on-screen report as he is expected to make future appearances in the MCU as well, including a rumored appearance in She-Hulk which is slated to release later this year. Additionally, the rumor mill has been circulating for some time now that some sort of Daredevil reboot is in the works from Marvel studios, which you can read more about here.

Daredevil is now available to stream on its new home, Disney+, along with the other former-Netflix series. Spider-Man: No Way Home is available for digital purchase now, and will release on physical media on April 12.
