Create Your Best Gala Award Submission

KB Headshot edit.png

Submission process

Intention is the first requirement of submitting your company’s work for awards. Tracking deadlines, collecting resources, and preparing a winning entry is a heavy lift, but it doesn’t have to be difficult. My best advice is to standardize a process among your team for collecting and organizing assets throughout the year. Think of it as building a library of your company’s most significant work and designate a team member from each account as the archivist. The submission process has changed with new technologies. There was a time when entries were arranged in presentation binders. Today’s processes are much simpler but require no less attention to detail.

Why awards are important

There are so many reasons why entering awards are essential for your business. Participating in industry awards is immensely important in developing brand awareness and is a fantastic opportunity to strengthen partnerships. Most award entries ask for the names of the client, employees, vendors, and suppliers to be included. Effectively, your win is extended to everyone who played a role in your program’s success. Awards are important internally, too, by helping to galvanize your team against all the hard work you put into your events. It lets you recognize the stars on your team contributing to an award-winning program.

Ours is still a very word-of-mouth industry. The marketing mileage of being selected by a jury of peers has benefits far exceeding the cost of entry. Winning a coveted Gala Award is a calling card of excellence and serves to attract new clients and build existing relationships.

 Tips for successful entry

To put together a successful entry, start early. Invest in the best photography and video assets you can afford to bring your event to life during the judging process. There is no amount of copy that can tell the story of your entry, like a great photo or video. Have a designated team member be responsible for tracking announcements on the awards circuit. Call a meeting with your team to discuss categories, review entry rules and consider which project is the perfect fit. Are all assets on hand, or do you need to reach out to a client, vendor, or supplier for their help?

If the opportunity arises for you or a colleague to serve as a judge for an award program, jump at the chance. You’ll gain valuable insight into what makes an entry stand out. Every entity has its own entry rules, and it can’t be stressed enough to follow the rules to the letter. Ensure that several sets of eyes review everything before hitting ‘submit.’ Cross-check it all against the published rules. Remember that there are costs involved in preparing your entry, in addition to the cost of submitting it. You wouldn’t want to risk being disqualified for having overlooked a simple requirement. Yes, that happens.

Good luck with your Gala Award submission!

How to Create and Edit a Calendar Event on Your iPhone or iPad

calendar app on iPhone

Apple’s Calendar app is built around events, so here’s how to create and edit those events from your iPhone or iPad.

Adding an event isn’t the only thing you can do on Apple’s Calendar app on your iPhone and iPad. You can customize it in different ways and edit details, add relevant documents, send out invitations, and delete events that are no longer taking place.

Here’s everything you need to know about creating and editing events in Apple’s Calendar app.

How to Create a Calendar Event

You can add all sorts of events to your calendars. Whether it’s a family gathering, social event, or study session, add it to your Apple Calendar app by following these steps:

  1. Tap on the plus (+) sign.
  2. Enter all the necessary details, including the Title, Location, and Time.
  3. Press Add.

You can also add an event using Siri, saying something like “Please schedule an appointment with the dentist at 10PM tomorrow” and selecting Confirm.

How to Delete an Event

If an event gets canceled, or you’d just rather skip it, you can delete it from your Calendar. Here’s how to delete calendar events on your iPhone and iPad:

  1. Tap on the event you want to delete to open it.
  2. Press Delete Event at the bottom of your event popup.

The Calendar app on iPhone and iPad has five different views, and you cannot see events in the Yearly or Monthly views. Moreover, you can also delete entire calendars in the Calendar app.

How to Edit an Event

If you want to change the date, venue, time, or any other details about an event, Apple’s Calendar app makes it extremely easy for you to do so. Here’s how:

  1. Tap on the event you want to edit.
  2. Select Edit in the corner.
  3. A new popup will show you everything there is you might want to change, including Title, Location, Invitees, and so on.
  4. Press Done after editing is over. Your new changes will now be saved.

How to Add Alerts to a Calendar Event

Got a busy schedule ahead? Add alerts so your iPhone or iPad reminds you of what’s next in your day. This way, you’ll always be on time and never miss out on anything. Add an alert by following these steps:

  1. Tap on an event and press Edit.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Alert.
  3. You will find a range of different timings from the time of the event to one week before. You may also see options based on your travel time if you’ve added a location to the event.
  4. If you want more than one alert, tap Second Alert and select another time.

How to Add Invitees to an Event

The Calendar app allows you to send and receive invites to events. You can send out invitations by adding invitees to your event. Here’s how:

  1. Tap on the event and press Edit.
  2. Scroll down and press Invitees.
  3. Type out the contact name or email address of the person you want to invite. You can also press the plus (+) button and select contacts to add.

How to Add Attachments to a Calendar Event

Receipts, reservation confirmations, invitation cards, and important documents are all examples of attachments you may need to add to an event. This will save you tons of hassle and time you may have had to spend searching for a file otherwise. Follow these steps to add an attachment:

  1. Tap on the event and select Edit.
  2. Choose Add Attachment.
  3. Select the file you want to attach or use the search bar to find the document you want. You can also browse through linked services like iCloud Drive and Google Drive to add attachments.

You can repeat the same steps to add more than one attachment to an event.

Be Prepared for Any Event With Apple’s Calendar App

The Calendar app has many features you may not know of that make it convenient to use. You can create an event, add alerts, add invitees, and even attachments to your events on iPhone and iPad.

To add to the list, did you know you could also change the color of your Calendars and events on the app? You can technically be your own personal assistant with all these great features.

More inclusivity at Wednesday Market could create larger event

More inclusivity at Wednesday Market could create larger event

The city’s downtown market will have a new look this year.

For the first time the brick-and-mortar businesses surrounding the Wednesday Market will be allowed to participate in the event, without any cost.

The downtown core businesses can set up small displays — tables, booths or racks — outside of their businesses during the Wednesday Market at no cost in order to capitalize on the increased traffic on market days by showcasing their wares. The displays would be limited in size to the linear frontage of the business.

The opportunity will be provided to all businesses in the downtown core, thereby creating an area that is broader than the market area.

Nelson director of corporate services Sarah Winton said in previous years where the farmers’ market was located on Baker Street, vendor stalls and tents were positioned facing outwards towards the road, while customers walked down the middle of the street with vendor stalls facing in.

Three years ago vendor stalls were turned to face toward store fronts, meaning people could walk down the sidewalk and could access both vendors and stores.

“This ensured that the brick-and-mortar businesses were visible and accessible to pedestrians and not hidden by vendor stalls,” said Winton in her report to council on May 3. “It also redirected pedestrian traffic to ensure they walked alongside brick and mortar business and vendor stalls rather than just the latter.”

Winton said there was positive feedback from businesses regarding that change.

A successful farmers’ market is a market that satisfies not only the needs of vendors and its customers, but also of the brick-and-mortar businesses in the downtown core, she explained. And participation from downtown businesses could result in a more “robust” market experience for everyone.

Location approved

In April city council gave third reading to a proposal to move the Wednesday city farmers’ market to the 600 block of Baker Street and the Hall Street Plaza.

At the May 3 meeting council adopted the bylaw that permanently positioned the market — that has bounced around for years along Baker Street and even to Cottonwood Park, in the plaza — to the area specifically designed to host such events.

The market had bounced around for years, said Nelson and District Youth Centre manager Jordan Martin — the youth centre manages the market for the city — and when Hall Street was re-furbished several years ago the intent was to create a space that could host a market.

“This location had a number of clear benefits as the central location drew a significant number of residents and visitors, furthering the ultimate goal of directly connecting residents to local food producers and artists,” she said in her report to council.

The Youth Centre had conducted a ThoughtExchange soliciting the community’s input on the location of the Farmers’ Market for Wednesday market days.

The pandemic forced both the Saturday and Wednesday market locations to migrate from Baker Street to Cottonwood Falls Park, alleviating challenges that businesses and the City of Nelson were facing due to the pandemic (e.g., social distancing, space constraints, entry and exit points, COVID-19 safety planning and cleaning protocols).

“While the Cottonwood Falls Park location does provide a desirable location for the Saturday market, it has proven challenging for the Wednesday Market,” said Martin. “The Wednesday market more heavily relies on ‘mid-week traffic’ from residents who can stop in at the market as part of their workday.”

However, Cottonwood does not draw as many people on a Wednesday since it is not in the downtown core.

“The Saturday market does not appear to have this problem as people are more easily able to make the market their main destination,” Martin explained in her report.

The results indicated that the general community and key market stakeholders would prefer a more central location within or close to the downtown core for the Wednesday Farmers’ Market

Trademark Events Showcases Strong Momentum, Helps Companies Across the Globe Create Jaw-Dropping Experiences

Trademark Events Showcases Strong Momentum, Helps Companies Across the Globe Create Jaw-Dropping Experiences

San Francisco, April 22, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Trademark, a full-service creative agency that produces jaw-dropping events for BtoB companies, showcased company momentum and client growth, driven by demand for broadcast-quality hybrid and virtual events, followed by a resurgence of in-person events as social distancing restrictions ease.

When the global pandemic hit, in-person events nearly ground to a halt. Rather than retreating or downsizing, Trademark took the opportunity to advance the events industry in new directions. It quickly pivoted its offerings to expand its virtual and hybrid capabilities and grew its client base multifold.

  • The company had already made its mark helping companies create jaw-dropping experiences and immersive interactions through in-person events, but it expertly applied new technologies, services, and mindsets to create equally successful virtual and hybrid events in new, creative ways.
  • Trademark’s leadership team pulled from its deep history in broadcast and film to break the mold of  irtual events that merely broadcast live event content and built a whole new caliber of high-quality, multi-dimensional media events that engaged and delighted audiences.
  • The company also conducted extensive research to vet and leverage advanced virtual event platforms, and established new partnerships to set the bar for hybrid and virtual events.
  • Over the past year Trademark also invested heavily in training internal team members, expanding the team with new hires and building out new content services. These steps further established Trademark as one of the premier event firms for creating game-changing, immersive content that can flow seamlessly from in-person, hybrid, and virtual formats that inspire and engage audiences.

Client growth: Trademark blog grew its client base of marquee brand names by 50%,  signing on new clients such as Appian, Pennymac, LiveRamp, Everlaw, BEMER Group and Webflow. Trademark also expanded existing relationships with long-term clients, including Adobe, Slack and ZEISS. Trademark produced multiple corporate events for Appian, including international virtual events across Australia, EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions. Trademark also grew its partner ecosystem, establishing a partnership with MeetingPlay, the leading provider of technology solutions for in-person, virtual, and hybrid events.

Commitment to diversity and inclusion: Reflecting Trademark’s continued commitment to excellence and diversity, Co-founder and Co-CEO Elle Chan joined a group of women leaders and entrepreneurs in the Chief organization, which provides a network of people facing similar challenges and building companies that will make a mark in their communities, industries, and the world.

Industry recognition: Underscoring Trademark’s momentum, the company received industry accolades for its outstanding client work, including an ExAward from Event Marketer for its work on Adobe’s annual conference, Adobe MAX. Trademark helped Adobe convert the annual conference into a purely digital experience, featuring “ Adobe Art Walks,” a virtual walk down streets of six global cities to showcase important works of some of the world’s most diverse, popular street artists. The event totaled more than 21 million total video views across all channels, more than 2.2 million visits to the event site and more than 50 million social interactions. Months later, the project is still delivering results through on-demand views and social sharing.

“Since the global pandemic hit, the way people interact with brands has dramatically changed. Through the ebbs and flows from in-person to fully virtual and everywhere in between, corporate events have taken on even greater importance as critical elements of the marketing and customer experience mix,” said Elle Chan, Co-founder and Co-CEO, Trademark. “Even as the anatomy of these events will continue to change, the need for creativity, audience engagement, and human interaction remain constant. Through long-standing relationships with our clients, partners and employees  we’ve been able to dive deeper into what will engage audiences in our new world, and we’re excited to see what the next act holds.”

What Are Scheduled Discord Events?

Scheduled Discord events is a Discord feature that helps server administrators plan events for the server and update members about it in a simple manner. This way, the admins can effectively organize voice and text channel events without much hassle.

If you are a server member, you can then choose to get notified when the event starts, so you don’t miss out on it. And if you are an admin or moderator, keep reading to find out how to schedule Discord events.

How to Schedule a Discord Event on Desktop

1. Open your Discord server and click on its name at the top-left corner. From the dropdown menu, choose “Create Event” to set up a new Discord event.

Concerts, events to create traffic woes in downtown Jacksonville Thursday

Concerts, events to create traffic woes in downtown Jacksonville Thursday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s going to be a bustling night in downtown Jacksonville on Thursday.

Three major events are all happening within the same area. The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp have a game, Justin Bieber is in town performing at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena and the Jax River Jams Concert will take place on the riverfront.

These events alone will bring tens of thousands of people to an area where parking is already an issue.

If you are heading downtown we recommend leaving at least an hour prior to your event to ensure you have plenty of time to arrive safely.

Be patient and have a great night!
