The Cressona American Legion has several events scheduled in the coming days and weeks.
Trivia Night will be held Saturday May 21, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Legion hall, 1 Front St. All are welcome to attend.
Cressona American Legion Auxiliary Unit 286 is holding a Little Miss Poppy/Poppy Queen event. All girls age 18 and under are invited to join in this event, which is gathering donations for poppies for the auxiliary unit. Donations must be handed in no later than 6 p.m. on Friday May 27, at the Cressona American Legion. The girl who collects the most donations will be in the Cressona Memorial Day Parade on May 30 and will be crowned Little Miss Poppy (ages 0-12) or Poppy Queen (ages 13-18). All girls gathering donations are welcome to join in the parade. For more information or to get poppies to gather donations, please contact unit286cressona@gmail.com .
The Memorial Day Parade will be held Monday, May 30. The parade forms at 9 a.m. in the HYDRO parking lot. Parade start time is 9:30, with an ending point at the Cressona American Legion Plaza, where there will be a service, followed by light refreshments in the American Legion canteen. All are welcome. If you or your group is interested in participating in the Memorial Day parade, please email unit286cressona@gmail.com for information.
The post is holding its second annual Flag Retirement Ceremony Saturday, June 11, beginning at 5 p.m. at Friedensburg Fish and Game, 169 Stone Mountain Road, Pine Grove. After the ceremony, everyone is invited to the Legion post for light refreshments.
Don’t throw your torn or tattered flag in the trash, give it to the American Legion. Soon there will b3 a drop box for “ready to retire” American Flags located outside Cressona American Legion Post 286. Until then, flags can be put in a bag and dropped at the post entrance, or brought inside during normal business hours. Thank you for helping to make sure ‘Old Glory’ gets the proper treatment she so deserves when her flying time is over.
Thank you if you are able to place our information for these upcoming events for our Non-Profit organization. If there is something else you need please feel free to email me and I will get it to you as soon as I can. Also, your newspaper is graciously invited to our Parade where you can witness the crowning of our Little Miss Poppy or Poppy Queen. You are also gladly welcome to the Flag retirement Ceremony. We are a small Legion compared to some, but we try and we hope all of these events continue for many years to come. Again, thank you.
