ESPN Events Invitational Bracket Revealed, Pirates To Face Memphis - Seton Hall University Athletics

South Orange, N.J. — The 2022 ESPN Events Invitational bracket has been revealed and the Seton Hall men’s basketball team will take on Memphis at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24 at State Farm Field House at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.

The game will be televised on ESPN News and the Pirates will face either Oklahoma or Nebraska in their second game. On the other side of the bracket on Nov. 24, Florida State will face Siena at 11 a.m. followed by Ole Miss vs. Stanford at 1:30 p.m.

The Thanksgiving matchup marks the fifth all-time meeting between the Pirates and the Tigers. Seton Hall last played Memphis on Nov. 21, 2008 at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The Pirates’ lone win in the series was a 103-71 victory on Jan. 22, 1953 in Walsh Gymnasium. Three of the the four meetings have come on a neutral court.

Memphis is now added to what will be another challenging non-conference schedule for the Pirates under first-year head coach Shaheen Holloway. The Hall is set to face four NCAA Tournament teams from last season in Memphis, Iowa (Nov. 16, Prudential Center), Rutgers (Dec. 11, Jersey Mike’s Arena) and Kansas (Dec. 1, Allen Fieldhouse), the defending national champions.

Seton Hall is 15-6 in its last 20 early-season, multi-team event games, including championship runs at the 2014 Paradise Jam Tournament and the 2018 Wooden Legacy Tournament. The Pirates last competed at the ESPN Events Invitational in 2016-17.

The 2022 ESPN Events Invitational, a bracket-format tournament, will feature 12 games over the three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in a championship matchup Sunday, Nov. 27.

All games will air on the ESPN networks, including Sunday’s championship game on ESPN (1:30 p.m. ET).

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State will play in the one of the most competitive early season college basketball tournaments of the 2022 season as the Seminoles return to the ESPN Events Invitational at the HP Field House at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, November 24-27. The Seminoles are joined in the event by Memphis, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Seton Hall, Siena, and Stanford in the eight-team event.

Florida State will play the event for the third time, after defeating Marquette to win the championship in 2009 and falling to Villanova in the championship game in 2018.

Dayton defeated Belmont to win the championship of the ESPN Events Invitational in 2021.

“This is a great event for our program to be invited to play in at Disney,” said Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. “It’s a great field every year, and this season is certainly no exception. The games are always competitive because the quality of the teams we will play against is so great. The challenge for our team, will be getting prepared to play three high-level opponents early in the season. This tournament also gives us a wonderful opportunity to play at a venue in the state of Florida that many of our fans will be excited to watch us play during the Thanksgiving holiday.”

The 2022 ESPN Events Invitational marks the 15th anniversary of the Thanksgiving Weekend event. Previously known as the Old Spice Classic, AdvoCare Invitational, and Orlando Invitational, the event will feature 12 games over three days (Thursday, Friday, and Sunday) during Thanksgiving Week, with each team competing in one game per day while advancing through a bracket-tournament format.

The complete bracket, including Florida State’s first round opponent, will be announced this summer. Ticket information will announced when the bracket is reveled. Seminole fans can sign up for the ticket pre-sale at espneventsinvitational.com.

The Seminoles have won the championship in three of their last four early season tournaments – the Jamaica Classic (2018), the Emerald Coast Classic (2020) and the Jacksonville Classic (2022).

Florida State returns both of its leading scorers from its’ 2021-22 season, with guards Caleb Mills (12.7 ppg, 30 3FGM) and Matthew Cleveland (11.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg) returning to the Seminoles’ rotation. Cleveland was named the ACC Sixth Man of the Year in 2022 – the fourth consecutive Seminole to win the award.

Lincoln – The Nebraska men’s basketball team will return to Orlando, Fla., this fall to participate in the 2022 ESPN Events Invitational, as the 2022 field was announced today.  This year’s edition take place from Nov. 24-27 at HP Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.

The eight-team field also includes Florida State, Memphis, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Seton Hall, Siena and Stanford. This will mark the second time the Huskers have participated in the event, and the first since the 2017-18 season.

Seven of the eight teams have previously participated in the event, including Florida State (2009, 2018), Memphis (2013, 2018), Oklahoma (2012), Seton Hall (2016) Siena (2008, 2013) and Stanford (2016). Ole Miss is the only team making its tournament debut.

The tournament could feature the first matchup between Nebraska and Oklahoma on the hardwood since the Huskers joined the Big Ten after the 2010-11 season. Besides the Sooners, who NU has played 197 times over the years, the rest of the field has played the Huskers just 16 times.  NU faced Stanford nine times, but the last meeting was during the 1965-66 season.
