“Pitch-In” community cleanup events scheduled throughout Leeds-Grenville

With Earth Day coming up, multiple municipalities in our area are looking for volunteers to help clean up our communities.

North Grenville, Edwardsburgh-Cardinal, and Merrickville-Wolford have all declared next week “Pitch-In Week.”

The municipalities will be providing residents who sign up to help with garbage bags provided by Pitch-In Canada, a national environmental organization that’s been organizing cleanup campaigns like this since 1967.

Volunteers will go around the community picking up any waste they find, and dropping off their full bags at designated spots in their area.

North Grenville councillor Kristin Strackerjan says the recent warm weather in our region coincides well with the event.

“When the snow melts, it reveals items that have been discarded over the winter months,” she says. “Removing this waste quickly is only made possible by the many residents who volunteer their time to clean-up neighbourhoods throughout our incredible community.”

The Township of Augusta is also organizing a single-day “Pitch-In” cleanup event the morning of April 23rd. Anyone who signs up to help out there will be given lunch for free.

Pitch-In Week starts on April 17th in Merrickville-Wolford and North Grenville, and April 18th in Edwardsburgh-Cardinal.

If you’re interested in helping out, the municipalities’ websites have registration details.
