Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Roger Cook:

“Our regional events play such an important role in showcasing the unique places that make our State a popular holiday destination for visitors, particularly as we reconnect with the world and draw back international visitors.

“I encourage all eligible regional event holders to apply for the Regional Events Scheme to help their event become even bigger and better, and appeal to an even more diverse audience.

“These events help create a vibrant atmosphere, give people a time-specific reason to visit, and help to generate media coverage in our regions, which is all great news for local businesses.”

“It is great to see events happening all around the State which not only bring communities together but also attract visitors from near and far, supporting regional economies and jobs.

“The Regional Events Scheme provides a significant boost to regional event holders, supporting them to pursue their program of activities with confidence.

“Events are an essential part of the fabric of Western Australia’s regions, celebrating our communities’ diversity and talents, while providing opportunities for connection and support – essential to help maintain strong, robust communities.”

UTRCA Receives Funding for Celebrating Natural Connections events (media release: August 16, 2022)

With the support of municipalities and community organizations, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) has obtained more than $230,000 in funding support from the Canadian Heritage Celebration and Commemoration Program Reopening Fund. The funds are being used to host a series of free “Celebrating Natural Connections” public events in natural spaces across the Upper Thames River watershed.

“Celebrating Natural Connections will feature 10 public hikes and two virtual hikes, led by community groups and UTRCA environmental education staff,” said Teresa Hollingsworth, UTRCA Community and Corporate Services Manager. “

There will also be activities, displays, and presentations, and a commemorative item will be installed at many locations to recognize the contributions of local front line workers. Local artists and municipalities will be involved, as well as hiking, naturalist, and angler clubs.”

The UTRCA would especially like to invite all those community members that have been instrumental in helping others through the pandemic.

The first event is taking place at Burgess Park in the City of Woodstock on Saturday, August 27, from 10 am to 2 pm. For more information about the upcoming events, please visit: www.thamesriverevents.ca

“We’re thrilled to receive the fund enabling us to host these events in our watershed,” said Hollingsworth. “Throughout the pandemic, we were reminded of the importance of our natural spaces for people’s well-being and we’re honoured to provide programming for the public at these sites. These Celebrating Natural Connections events also let us join our community partners and municipalities in recognizing the efforts of front line workers in the response to COVID-19.”

This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada.

The Government of Saskatchewan has officially designated July 10 to 16 as Parks Week, in conjunction with Canada’s Parks Day on July 16.

“Parks Week is currently underway with a series of fun programs and live performances offered throughout the week in a number of provincial parks,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross said. “Parks Week is a great lead up to Canada’s Parks Day on July 16, an annual initiative led by the Canadian Parks Council to connect people to nature through fun, educational, family-oriented events and programs all across the country.”

This year’s Parks Week and Canada’s Parks Day will feature a series of themed programs in a number of provincial parks, with activities such as treasure hunts, guided hikes, crafts, painting and more. Times and dates for guided programs and events can be found by searching “Events & Tickets” by each park at http://parks.saskatchewan.ca

The event will include a Polynesian pulled pork bar, crafts, a treasure hunt, cornhole tournament, steel drum performance by The Steadies, an astronomy program, tiki cocktails and beer gardens. A detailed itinerary for the Lu’au can be found under “events” on Sask Parks’ Facebook page.

SaskExpress kicked off their provincial park tour on Thursday, July 7, in Moose Mountain Provincial Park with their “Going for Gold” performance, taking the world of Olympic athletes and mashing it with musical theatre for a funny, exciting and sure-to-impress live show. The remaining provincial park tour dates taking place during Parks Week are as follows:

  • The Battlefords – July 14
  • Blackstrap – July 15

S.Korean leader’s informal media events are a break with tradition | SaltWire

S.Korean leader's informal media events are a break with tradition | SaltWire

By Soo-hyang Choi

SEOUL (Reuters) – South Korean leader Yoon Suk-yeol has departed from years of tradition by holding informal daily media events to field questions on topics ranging from inflation and ties with neighbouring North Korea to the first lady and even boyband BTS.

Such wide-ranging access to the president was previously unheard of. It stems from Yoon’s decision to move his office out of the official Blue House, whose previous occupants largely steered clear of such interactions over more than seven decades.

“It’s apparently helping Yoon dispel worries about his lack of political experience and giving him a sense of where public opinion is at,” said Eom Kyeong-young, a political commentator based in the capital, Seoul.

Yoon, a former prosecutor-general, entered politics just a year ago, before winning the presidency in March by a margin of just 0.7%, the narrowest in South Korea’s history.

Upon his inauguration in May, Yoon moved the presidential office to the compound of South Korea’s defence ministry, describing the official residence as the symbol of an “imperial presidency”, and vowing not to “hide behind” his aides.

His liberal predecessor, Moon Jae-in, had rarely held news conferences, and almost always filtered his communication with the media, and the public, through layers of secretaries.

Analysts see Yoon’s daily freewheeling sessions as part of a broader communications strategy that lets him drive policy initiatives and present himself as a confident, approachable leader.

The campaign has also allayed public suspicions about the newcomer to politics, they say.

Polls show the new strategy helping to win support and much-needed political capital for Yoon in his effort to hasten recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, in a parliament dominated by the opposition Democratic Party.

Although Yoon’s approval rating dipped to 47.6% in a recent survey, slightly lower than the disapproval figure of 47.9%, another June poll showed communication was the reason most frequently cited by those who favoured him.

“The sweeping victory of Yoon’s conservative party in June local elections shows the public is not so much against the new administration,” said Eom.

Incumbents from Yoon’s People Power Party (PPP) defeated challengers for the posts of mayor in the two biggest cities of Seoul and the port city of Busan in that contest, while its candidates won five of seven parliamentary seats.

Eom attributed Yoon’s low approval rating from the beginning of his term to inflation risks that threaten to undermine an economic recovery and his lack of a support base as a new politician.

But some critics say Yoon’s sessions raise the chances that he could make mistakes.

“He could make one mistake a day,” Yun Kun-young of the opposition party wrote on Facebook last week, saying the new practice could be “the biggest risk factor” for the government.

The presidential office could not immediately be reached for comment.

Yoon has already faced criticism for controversial remarks made during the morning briefings, such as one in defence of his nominee for education minister, who has a record of driving under the influence of alcohol years ago.

But the daily meetings and public reaction would ultimately help the government to shape policy better, said Shin Yul, a professor of political science at Myongji University in Seoul.

“It might be burdensome for his aides for now, but will be an advantage in the long term,” Shin said. “A slip of the tongue cannot be a bigger problem than a policy failure.”

Next Media Rights For Indian Market And Men’s And Women’s Events To Be Sold Separately By ICC

ICC

The ICC has gone to market with its media rights for the next eight-year cycle, and it has done so in a completely different fashion than before. The ICC will go to market in India alone beginning next week, selling rights for men’s and women’s events individually, as well as digital rights. This reflects the shifting media landscape.

The ICC’s choice to go to India first reflects a determination to get the best business contract possible. The ICC has previously sold worldwide rights to both men’s and women’s tournaments on a consolidated basis. No longer: the ICC intends to sell rights for various areas in the future, in the hopes of attracting more bids and therefore increasing the deal’s overall worth.

Invitation To Tender For All Events In The India Market Due On 22 August

On June 20, the ICC will issue an Invitation To Tender (ITT) for all of the events in the Indian market, and sealed bids will be due on August 22. By early September 2022, the ICC will notify the selected bidders before issuing the ITTs for further markets.

Next Media Rights For Indian Market And Men's And Women's Events To Be Sold Separately By ICC

Before announcing its proposal for the world tournaments, the ICC waited for the BCCI to finish its media rights e-auction for the IPL, which brought in deals worth more than $US 6 billion. Before finalising its own strategy, the ICC engaged the BCCI to evaluate the approach utilised for the IPL rights auction.

The ICC, unlike the BCCI, will continue to employ the sealed-bids procedure “to inspire potential bidders to make their highest bid for the events and package they want,” according to a media statement.

Six Different Bundles To Be Available In India

In India, up to six different bundles will be available, including TV-only, digital-only, and a mix of the two.

Bidders can compete in 16 men’s events (spanning eight years) and six women’s events (spanning four years), totaling 362 and 103 matches, respectively. Only senior-level matches are included in these data; the men’s and women’s Under-19 World Cups (one-day and T20) will also be included, although they will be in addition to these match figures.

Four Under-19 World Cups, four T20 World Cups, two Champions Trophies, four World Test Championship finals, and two 50-over World Cups are among the 16 men’s competitions. Two T20 World Cups, two Under-19 T20 World Cups, one 50-over World Cup, and one T20 Champions Trophy will be among the six women’s competitions.

The ICC media release said, that “interested parties will be required to submit a bid for the first four years of men’s events. However, they also have the option of bidding for an eight-year partnership.”

If any of the packages is only sold for four years, the ICC will open a new opportunity to sell the rights for the next four years.

For the men’s events (including the Under-19 events), three packages will be available:

  • TV (four/eight years)
  • Digital (four/eight years)
  • TV and digital combined (four/eight years)

Similar packages will be available for women’s events (including Under-19 events), with the exception that each will last four years:

  • TV (four years)
  • Digital (four years)
  • TV and digital combined (four years)

“There has been significant growth in interest in women’s cricket over the last five years and we have made a long-term strategic commitment to accelerate that growth, and unbundling the rights for our women’s events will play a huge role in that,” ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice said as per the release.

“We are looking for a broadcast partner who is excited by the role they will play in growing the women’s game and ensuring more fans than ever before can enjoy it.”

Highest Bid May Not Fetch Women’s Rights

The next ICC rights cycle will include six women's tournaments (Image Credits: Twitter)

Bidders will have the option of exhibiting “their vision for cricket to the ICC, particularly for the Women’s Package” when they include their final bids in a sealed envelope in August, as part of the ICC’s continued drive to broaden the reach of women’s cricket internationally.

Instead of using money as the sole criterion for the next cycle, the ICC is inviting bidders to discuss how they will use their platform to promote the women’s game, which might add more value and purpose to the contract overall. For the women’s events, the ICC has left the option of not granting the rights to the highest bidder open.

Previously, women’s global tournament rights were sold as an add-on to men’s events, which the ICC believed devalued the women’s game.

The latest consolidated ICC rights contract had gone to Star India (2015-2023). The ICC has not announced the deal’s worth, but ESPNcricinfo understands it to be around US$ 1.9 billion.

Media Statements – Regional events to reignite tourism around the State

  • Up to $1 million to be awarded to nearly 70 events under Tourism WA’s annual Regional Events Scheme, including 13 new events
  • Includes $150,000 to deliver Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme
  • Next RES funding round will open August 23, 2022 for 2023-24
  • Supported by the McGowan Government through Tourism WA

Regional economies are set to soar with up to $1 million to be awarded to 68 regional events through Tourism Western Australia’s 2022-2023 Regional Events Scheme (RES).

The annual funding round supports smaller and developing regional events, which attract new visitors, create jobs and stimulate local economies.

The funding includes $150,000 reserved for the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme (RAES), for events that deliver Aboriginal activities or experiences and celebrate the promotion and leadership of Aboriginal people.

The scheme is supported by the State Government through Tourism WA.

This year’s RES funds 13 new events, including the Morawa Biennial Art Awards and Exhibition in the Mid-West, the Pilbara’s unique and challenging outdoor multi-sport adventure experience Red Dog Relay and Festival, and RAES event Bandak Mereny Yanginy (Outdoor Giving of Food), an Indigenous food-inspired event in the Great Southern region.

Events sponsored in the new funding round will be held across the State from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.

To see the full list of recipients and for more information about the RES, visit Tourism WA’s corporate website.

Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Roger Cook:

“As Western Australia opens up to the rest of the world, regional events provide an opportunity for local, interstate and international visitors to go beyond city limits and to experience the unique features in each of our State’s wonderful regions.

“Our clear message to the rest of the country and the world is that Western Australia is well and truly open for business – all over the State. Regional events play an important role in attracting visitors to these areas, stimulating local economies by creating jobs and adding vibrancy to our dynamic regional communities.

“The State Government, through Tourism WA, is proud to support these 68 events in WA’s regions, which have been awarded funding through this round of the Regional Events Scheme.

“There really is something for everyone, from Aboriginal cultural and food experiences to adrenaline-oriented adventures and gastronomic delights – each event embodying its own distinctive regional offering.”

Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“Regional events are back on the calendar across all nine regions of Western Australia, celebrating each area’s unique culture, art and cuisine, and delighting visitors and locals.

“Events showcase the talent, skills and culture of WA’s regional areas while encouraging community engagement, creating jobs and boosting local economies.

“Whether it’s revelling in Mullewa’s new astro, geo and sporting-focused Ancient Land Under Blue Skies Festival, marvelling at nature’s beauty at the Nannup Flower and Garden Festival or enjoying authentic music at the Boyup Brook Country Music Festival, we encourage everyone to get out into our State’s spectacular regions, wander out yonder to somewhere they’ve never been before and have an unforgettable WA experience.”

By hosting development and finance experts alongside advisors and solutions providers in the space, NPM Events will generate frank discussions with unique and informative content and provide valuable networking opportunities for attendees.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, we hosted several virtual events centering on the issues that mattered most to our clients, and they were very successful,” said Ken Meehan, founder and CEO of New Project Media. “Our goal is to elevate the value to our clients and the broader industry by focusing our now in-person events more on the development side, because developers and their partners drive the market, and this approach sets us apart from the broader, ‘later-stage’ content, or trade show models of other renewable energy events.”

NPM Events will host its flagship US Development & Finance Forum every spring in Houston, as well as a revolving series in the fall called NPM Evolutions. This year’s NPM Evolutions conference will be the US Energy Storage Development & Finance Forum, held on October 25 and 26, 2022, in San Diego.

“When we looked at our clients, including developers, financiers, advisors, solutions providers and energy buyers, it became clear to us we needed to create an outlet for them to come together, learn from one another, and discuss topical trends and issues not typically covered on the events circuit,” said Brett Birman, Chief Commercial Officer for NPM. “Our goals for NPM Events are to inspire attendees with expert, insightful content on activity in the renewables space; have them participate in honest, non-biased and informed discussions; and facilitate productive networking opportunities.”
