Bearcats Win 13 Events at Oliver Nikoloff Invitational - University of Cincinnati Athletics

CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati track and field team wrapped up its one home meet of the season with 13 first-place finishes along with multiple podium placements.  25 Bearcats’ senior were honored at the event. 
 
The Bearcats had great performances in all events in front of a large crowd at Gettler Stadium to cheer on UC. 
 
The women’s teams had the highest team score, finishing with 210 points. The men’s team finished in a close second with 153.50 points behind Miami (OH), who scored 164.
 
PERFORMANCES OF NOTE
Women’s 4×100-meter relay:
UC women’s 4×100-meter relay team consisting of Faith Banks, Calista Manns, Alicia Thorpe and Juliet McGregor finished first with a time of 45.79.
 
Women’s 400-meter Dash:
UC flew by the competition in the 400-meter dash with runners finishing in the top two spots. Banks finished first with a time of 53.33 and Thorpe finished second with a time of 55.74. 
 
Men’s Long Jump:
Austin Edwards, the back-to-back AAC champion in the long jump continued his dominance in the event with a win at home, jumping 7.48 meters to measure significantly further than the nearest competitor. 
 
Women’s Long Jump:
UC was able to secure the top two spots in the women’s long jump. Nadia Collins jumped 5.92 meters to secure first place while Anaya Dees jumped 5.69 meters to secure second place. 
 
Women’s Triple Jump:
Kennedy Marable finished in first place in the women’s triple jump. She jumped 12.68 meters to beat the rest of the field by a large margin.
 
Men’s 100-meter Dash:
Chris Borzor crossed the finish line in first for the second time this season in the 100-meter dash. His time of 10.52 made him a clear winner at home. 
 
Women’s 100-meter hurdles:
The first and second spots in the 100m hurdles were taken by the Bearcats. Victoria Abunaw placed first with a time of 13.87. Calista Manns placed second with a time of 14.17.  
 
Women’s 800-meter Run:
Ellie Leather finished her career at home with a win in the 800-meter dash, running a time of 2:05.76. She was followed closely by fellow senior Carmen Licht, placing third in 2:10.69.
 
Women’s High Jump:
Annika Kinley and Alyssa Matheny led the high jump with both jumpers clearing 1.71-meters. Kinley finished first and Matheny finished second based on misses in previous heights.
 
Men’s High Jump:
Roderick Flint jumped a huge personal best to win the men’s high jump at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, improving to a jump of 2.05 meters to win the meet. 
 
Men’s 200-meter Dash:
Freshman Steven McElroy won the 200-meter dash at his first-ever home meet for the Bearcats with his time of 21.22.
 
Women’s 4×400-meter Relay:
The team of Thorpe, Banks, Licht and Leather opened up a huge lead in the 4×400-meter relay early in the race. They held the lead and finished the final event for the UC women’s team in first with a time of 3:46.40.
 
Men’s 10,000-meter Run:
Julius Hild closed out the night with a win in the 10,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 30:28.16.
 
Women’s 1500-meter Run:
The Bearcats had two runners finish top three in the 1500m run. Maddie Walker finished second with a time of 4:32.91. Rylee Penn finished right behind Walker with a time of 4:33.30.
 
Men’s Shot Put:
Two Bearcats made it on the podium in the event, with Korbin Spencer taking second place with a throw of 16.03 meters followed by Sam Meece in third with a throw of 15.98 meters. 
 
NEXT UP
The team will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to compete in the Tennessee Relays, hosted by University of Tennessee. The meet will take place from Thursday, April 7 to Saturday, April 9.
