June 18 marks the inaugural Norfolk Community Day with a variety of events happening throughout the county.

People will be welcome to attend recreational and socio-cultural activities at locations such as community centres, museums, libraries, fire halls, pools, arenas, parks, and breweries.

“This initiative has been a home run from the start,” said Norfolk County Mayor Kristal Chopp in a media release. “It’s going to be amazing to see our community unite like this, and the timing couldn’t be better. I encourage everyone in Norfolk to get out and see what’s happening.”

Community Day includes storytime for children, scavenger hunts, concerts by the lake, sandcastle building, museum exhibits and more.  Those more into physical or sporting activities can go swimming, try pickleball, or skating.  Want to learn about magic? Award-winning illusionist Lucas Wilson will be on hand at the Vittoria Community Centre from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

“We wanted to give the community something to rally around and our partners have delivered,”  Brandon Sloan, Norfolk’s general manager of planning and development, said in the release.. “Seeing so many businesses and groups immediately step forward shows how much community spirit is in Norfolk and how committed everyone is to putting on a tremendous event.”

There will also be activities at the Simcoe Seniors’ Centre (including the official ribbon cutting at the new location at the Simcoe Rec Centre) and Delhi Friendship Centre.

While in Delhi, people can take in the town’s annual Strawberry Festival.
