DHHR Recruiting Events Showcase Job Opportunities Statewide

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) is actively recruiting applicants for job openings statewide. DHHR offers a wide range of careers that provide the opportunity to work as a team to assure necessary resources and information are accessible to West Virginia residents.

“DHHR has career opportunities open in many fields, ranging from accounting to social work,” said Angela Ferris, Director of DHHR’s Office of Human Resources Management. “Our hiring events and job fairs connect potential employees and prospective employers through jobs that truly make a difference in West Virginia’s future. I strongly encourage West Virginians who are job searching or considering a career change to attend one of our hiring events or directly connect with our recruiting team.”

DHHR is hosting several hiring events in the coming weeks. To register for an interview time, email DHHRJobs@wv.gov or call 304-558-7816.

  • DHHR’s Bureau for Public Health will host a three-day virtual hiring event August 23, 24 and 26.

  • Mildred Mitchel Bateman Hospital (Huntington) will host an interviewing event on August 25, 2022.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has further strained an already stressed health care system and nurses and other health care professionals continue to be in high demand across the country, and in West Virginia,” added Ferris. “We hope to retain our nurses and attract new employees to our great state with a new initiative for nurses at West Virginia state-operated facilities.”

Nursing incentives are available for eligible applicants at state-operated facilities. Learn more about this program by visiting our website or emailing DHHRJobs@wv.gov.

UMaine Augusta to host events statewide for remotely piloted aircraft

Manned and unmanned Aviation Studies at the University of Maine at Augusta delivers a program of study for students who aspire to be pilots. Remotely piloted aircraft students also can learn how to design, build, and maintain both fixed wing and quadcopter aircraft. They design systems with video and telemetry equipment and learn how to fly commercial missions.

The Aviation Studies program will be hosting a series of events throughout the state this summer to educate Mainers about Unmanned Aerial Systems, better known as drones or remotely piloted aircraft. The events will be held at all eight UMA Centers and at its Bangor Campus, and are free for participants, according to a news release from UMaine Augusta.

Each event will include a 90-minute presentation about the program and will explain the different course offerings for non-credit, credit, certificate, and early college courses. Each presentation also will explain how individuals and organizations are using drones and what the future of the industry holds. The presentations will close with a Q&A session, followed by flying demonstrations of several of UMA’s aircraft, weather permitting.

UMA is the only university in Maine with an unmanned aerial system pilot training program and has already trained more than 300 students in its basic Commercial Drone course. The program is adaptable to several different academic endeavors. Students can work towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Science with remotely piloted aircraft major; earn a 31-credit hour certificate in Unmanned Aerial Systems; or take the basic Commercial Drone course to prepare for the FAA Part 107 Commercial Remote Pilot certificate. The 31-credit hour UAS certificate is approved for financial aid for qualified students.

The schedule of UMA UAS events will be:

• UMA Rockland Center, Wednesday, July 13, 4-7 p.m.

• UMA Saco Center, Thursday, July 14, 1-4 p.m.

• UMA Ellsworth Center, Monday, July 25, 1-4 p.m.

• UMA Rumford Center, Wednesday, July 27, 9 a.m.-noon.
