Open Mic night, presented by WUD Music, is a place to advertise for, and build community among performers in Madison. We welcome all styles of music, comedy, spoken word, poetry, and pretty much any type of stage performance you can condense into a performance slot! Open Mic sessions will run every Wednesday night May 18 – August 24 – on the Terrace, Memorial Union. (Rain location: Rathskeller, Memorial Union) Sign up with the host starting at 6:45pm. Performances from 7:00pm-9:00pm. We provide a sound system — monitors and microphones. Unfortunately, we don’t have any backline instruments or amps available. We are able to plug in backing tracks to our sound system. Looking forward to having you!

Toxic Drug Alert Issued for Terrace After Increase of Overdose Events

Northern Health has issued a toxic drug alert, covering the Terrace area, after an increase in overdose events in the community.

Being sold as down, in both powder and pebble form, the purple substance contains highly toxic levels of both fentanyl and benzodiazepines.

Users are urged not to use alone or mix with alcohol, know your tolerance, start low and go slow, and to make use of overdose prevention sites.

Terrace’s local overdose prevention site is operated by the Intensive Case Management Team, at 4450 Grieg Avenue, and is open from noon to 4:00 Monday to Friday, except holidays.

Witsuwit’en Language & Culture Society putting on event to celebrate dictionary release

Witsuwit’en Language & Culture Society putting on event to celebrate dictionary release

To celebrate the release of the Official Witsuwit’en-English Dictionary, the Witsuwit’en Language & Culture Society is going to be holding two events where copies of the dictionary will be handed out.

The first event will be held this Friday at the Witset First Nation Multiplex, located at 205 Beaver Rd, from 1 PM to 3 PM.

As of right now, the second event has neither a date or a venue scheduled.

The first event will see members of the Hagwilget and Witset First Nations allowed to attend and the second event will allow members of the Wet’suwet’en First Nation, Ts’il Kaz Koh, Nee Tahi Buhn, and Skin Tyee to come.

Multiple Events Taking Place in Terrace Tomorrow in Honour of Red Dress Day

Tomorrow is Red Dress Day, and residents of the Terrace area have a few ways to honour the day.

There will be three events taking place in Terrace, each hosted by the Tears to Hope Society.

In the morning, individuals can meet at the Chill Soda Shop at 8:00 to take part in the Red Dress Run.

A walk will also be held in the evening, beginning at 6:30, with participants also meeting at the Chill Soda Shop.

In addition, there will be a Hidden Red Dress display event running throughout the day, which will see red dresses hidden around Terrace, along with a message of hope and action.

Red Dress Day is held annually on May 5th to honour missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and to educate people on the crisis.
