Ferrand-Prévot and Carod win short track events at Val di Sole MTB World Cup

The final round of the first-ever World Cup season in the cross-country Short Track (XCC), saw world champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (BMC) win the women’s race and her BMC teammate Titouan Carod win the men’s on Friday, in Val di Sole, Italy.

The first overall series titles went to Alessandra Keller (Thomus Maxon) and Alan Hatherly (Cannondale Factory).

The women’s 20-minute race quickly came down to four riders – Ferrand-Prévot, Keller, Loana Lecomte (Canyon Collective) and Olympic XCO champion Jolanda Neff (Trek Factory).

The group stayed together until the final lap, when Lecomte launched an attack on the climb. Only Ferrand-Prévot could stay with her, and then passed her in the final corner to take the win by a bike length.

Keller took third, to give her 1,470 points, 190 ahead of early season series leader Rebecca McConnell (Primaflora Mondraker Genuins), who finished second overall, 21 points in front of Neff.

The battle for the men’s title was expected to be between Hatherly and second place Filippo Colombo (BMC), who was only 62 points back going into the final round.

However, when Hatherly attacked aggressively in the early laps, Colombo faded, to eventually finish 15th. Carod was the only rider to go with Hatherly, attacking on the final lap to win, with Hatherly securing his title by finishing second, ahead of Luca Braidot (Santa Cruz FSA).

Colombo held onto to his second in the overall standings, but Carod jumped from fifth to third with his win, his first in XCC.

Val Demings, Charlie Crist hold campaign events in Broward with focus on defeating Republican opponents

TAMARAC, Fla. – Florida’s top Democratic candidates were in South Florida to help kick off the party’s push to beat out the Republicans they running to replace, Governor Ron DeSantis and Senator Marco Rubio.

Fresh off a big primary win, Val Demings returned to Broward County on Thursday night.

She shifted her campaign speech to cater to a crowd of military veterans.

“We need to make sure that our VA hospitals all over this nation are able to protect you, take care of you, and you shouldn’t have to wait six months, eight months, a year to be able to see a specialist,” she said.

The Democratic congresswoman is on the November ballot trying to unseat Rubio, and recent polls show a tightening race.

In fact, Demings is out-raising Rubio.

The most recent dunning cycle shows Rubio took in $36 million dollars compared while Demings raised $48 million.

It’s something Rubio has acknowledged in recent speeches and television interviews.

“I need people to help, but she’s raising all this money from ultra-liberals who want to ruin Florida by the way,” Rubio said during a recent interview.

The other big ticket to watch in Florida is the governor’s race, where Charlie Crist is campaigning to win his old job back.

Time will tell if his efforts will be enough to head off the support from Republicans for Ron DeSantis.

Crist also spent his Thursday night campaigning in Tamarac at a Unity for Democrats event.

Alongside his one-time Democratic challenger Nikki Fried, she has since thrown her support toward Crist.

“We have our task ahead of us,” he said. “We know what the mission is. The mission is victory. Nothing short of victory. Failure is not an option.”

Bride in limbo after Val Vista Lakes HOA votes to cancel events

GILBERT, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) – A bride-to-be is scrambling to re-plan her wedding after she was notified her venue is no longer hosting events starting at the beginning of next year.

“Yesterday, I got a phone call from the general manager of Val Vista Lakes telling me they were canceling all events after January 1st, 2023, and they said it was because of legal reasons,” said Amy Greco. “It’s not actually the HOA company. It’s actually the HOA board members that are voting against having the events there. The only thing that I could think of is that they want to host events there themselves and maybe because Val Vista Lakes is such a popular venue, they’re not able to do so. Which is fine, but I feel they should honor my contract.”

Greco said she wanted the venue so badly that she booked her reservation in August 2021 for her wedding in March 2023.

“Since I moved here in 2006, I wanted to get married there mainly because of the lake and the views there. Because of the docks, it reminded me of my hometown in Long Island,” Greco said. “It was a must for me. That was the first thing that I booked, and then I kind of built the wedding around that.”

Val Vista Lakes said in an email to Greco that she would be returned her $1,000 deposit. However, Greco said she doesn’t know what will happen to her vendors.

“It’s kind of like build your own wedding. So it’s up to me to pick all of my vendors and book them and put it all together,” Greco explained. “I have everything booked. I have my caterers booked, I have the bartender, invitations are sent out, there’s a hotel room block already booked, RSVPs are already coming in. If I were to have to go somewhere else, I don’t know that I can bring my vendors with me, I don’t know if they can refund me the deposits. I don’t know what’s within my budget anymore. It’s all kind of ruined.”

Greco said she wanted Val Vista Lakes as her wedding venue before meeting her future husband. She’s hoping there’s still a way to make it happen.

“The general manager from Val Vista Lakes, or the HOA company, had called me and said that there is a loophole and if I find any resident in Val Vista Lakes that will sponsor me for my event, I’m still able to have it,” Greco said. “But I don’t know anyone that lives in Val Vista Lakes because I’m all the way here in Phoenix.”

Arizona’s Family reached out to the vice president of Val Vista Lakes, but we have not gotten a response.
